Today's reading 1Kings 21-22
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links: 1Kings 21; 1Kings 22

1Kings 21: King Ahab had coveted Naboth’s vineyard. He wanted to buy it from naboth but he refused to sell it to him. Jezebel came up with an evil scheme on how to get the vineyard. As part of her evil scheme, two evil men accused Naboth of cursing God and the king. Naboth was consequently stoned and Ahab got the vineyard. Elijah, by the word of God, confromted Ahab, and said because he murdered Ahab and stole his vineyard, the dogs will lick Ahab’s blood in the same way they licked Naboth’s blood. Ahab repented of the sins he committed against Naboth and humbled himself before God. He will not bring disaster on the house of Ahab but on the house of his son. Prayer changes things when done in humility, sincerity and faith.

1 Kings 22.1-28; 2Chronicles 18.1-27 Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat met as allies against the king of Aram. Jehoshaphat wanted the counsel of God and asked Ahab if there was a prophet to seek the counsel of the Lord whether they should go to war against Romoth-gilead. Ahab had his prophets and they did not have the Spirit of God within them. Jehoshaphat asked if there was another prophet present. Ahab said that there was athe prophet Micaiah but he never prophesied any good (in Ahab’s favor). Jehoshaphat request Micaiah and he answered opposite to what the lying prophets told Ahab and Jehoshaphat. The truth was the Lord did not give Ramoth-Gilead.in the hands of Ahab and Jehoshaphat. Micaiah was put in prison for speaking the truth. How many of us would stand up for the truth and pay the consequences?
Ahab was killed by a random arrow, at Ramoth-Gilead (1Kings 22.29-36; 2Chronicles 18.28-34) even though he disguised himself. Ahab’s blood was licked up by dogs as the Lord had declared in 1Kings 21.19.

Jehoshaphat was the king of Judah (1Kings 22.41-50; 2Chronicles 31.21.1) during the reign of Ahab. He was a good king although he associated with Ahab. He walked in the ways of Asa, his father and did right in the eyes of the Lord. He did not remove the high places and the people offered sacrifices and burnt offerings there.

Ahaziah was the king of Israel (1Kings 22.51-53). He was the son of Ahab and did evil in the eyes of the Lord. He had Ahab and Jezebel as two perfect evil examples to follow.

Today's Reading Luke 23.26-56

Luke 23 with Commentaries, verse by verse

The order for the crucifixion was carried out. Luke 23.33-43; Matthew 27.33-44; Mark 15.22-32; John 19.17-24

This African American spiritual spoke to me.

Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?

Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?

I felt that I was there because of my sins He died for me. Were you there at the cross as well?

Arthur Pink:The Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross

The most important decision one can make in his or her life is what to do with Jesus Christ. There were two other crosses, one thief rejected Christ. the other realized that he sinned and he deserved what he got. He asked Jesus to remember him when he go into his kingdom. It is never too late to come to Jesus nor you are forgiven whatever sins you commit IF you come to Jesus, repent and turn away from the sin and ask him to be Lord and Savior in your life.

How to Become a Christian

In Luke 23.44-49; Matthew 27.45-56; Mark 15.33-41, Jesus was nailed to the cross at 9 a.m. From about noon until 3 p.m. darkness came over the land, The veil of the Holy of Holies was split in two and Jesus committed his spirit to God (v. 46). Because the veil was split we now have access into the Holy of Holies to God through Jesus Christ(Hebrews 10.19-25). The centurion supervising the crucifixion said that Jesus was a righteous man and praised God.

In Luke 23.50-56; Matthew 27.57-61; Mark 15.42-47; John 19.38-42 Jesus was buried in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb. Usually the remains of a crucified man would be unburied or at best be in a pauper’s field. Joseph had courage to ask for Jesus’ body in this situation. The women were at the cross. Except for John, where were the men? The women used spices such as aloes and myrrh to prepare Jesus’ body for burial on Friday afternoon. They had to rest on the Sabbath (Saturday).
