1Chronicles 10 speaks about Saul taking his life (1Chronicles 10.1-12; 1Samuel 31.1-3; 2Samuel 1.4-12)
In 1Samuel 31, there was a battle between the Philistines and the Israelites, and things got bad for Saul, he lost three sons, Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua. They had aslo wounded Saul critically. Saul told his armor-bearer to kill him but he was afraid. Saul took his own sword and kill himself, so did the armor-bearer. Thus ended the life of Saul, a man with promise and whose life ended in tragedy. The Life and Death of King Saul
The Christian Life is a race, it is not how you start the race, it is the finish line that counts.

In 2 Samuel 1.1-15, A messenger who was an Amakelite came to give David the news of Saul's death. David hears of Saul's death. (2Samuel 1.4-12; 1Samuel 31.1-13; 1Chronicles 10.1-12). The Amakleite lied to David because he expected David to reard him. David, instead ordered his death. He had still viewed Saul as the Lord's anointed (verse 14) . He had all the opportunities to kill Saul but he had not, instead he left it in God's hand. In verse 17-26, He mourned over Saul and his good friend Jonathan.

1 Chronicles 11
2Samuel 5.1-3; 1Chronicles 11.1-3: All the tribes came to Hebron, David made a compact with them and they anointed him king over all of Israel, David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned for forty years in all.

King David

David captured Jerusalem (2Samuel 5.6-10; 1Chronicles 11.1-9) from the Jebusites and called it the City of David. Notice verse 10 stated that David became more powerful because the Lord God Almighty was with Him. In 2Samuel 5.11-16; 1Chronicles 3.5-9; 14.1-7, there is a description of the children born to David.
When the Philistines heard that David was king over all Israel, they launched an attack against Israel. David inquired of the Lord wheteher he should attack the Philistines and whether God would hand them over to him. God told him to go and attack. The victory was David. And he defeated them. We remembered Saul and before his tragic death, he inquired of the Lord but there was no answer, that was when he had contacted the witch of Endor and things went bad for Saul and he died.

1Chronicles 12 There were warriors who joined David. There was an exhaustive list of men: kinsmen of Saul who helped David (v. 1-7) and the men of Gad (v. 8-15). Men from Benjamin and Manasseh also helped David (v. 16-22). There were others who joined David at Hebron. (v. 23-40).

Today's Reading John 6.45-71

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: John 6

John 6 with Commentaries, verse by verse

John 6.45-71
Jesus continued by saying that no one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws that person to Him (Jesus). We cannot even boast that we came to Jesus because it is the Father who is responsible for that. He continued that they should eat his flesh and drink his blood referring to us participating in the Lord's Supper. The Jews were revolted by what he said. They taught that they were to literally eat His flesh and drink His blood. They though he was talking about cannibalism. Jesus was saying that we should participate in the Lord's Supper but it does not mean that we will saved by the sacrament. Rather throughout the discourse He spoke of salvation which is based on faith (v. 35, 40, 47, 51).

Many deserted Him because they could not accept what he taught. He knew that some would desert Him and even that Judas would betray Him. Let us be careful of our faith because it is so easy to desert Jesus or turn our backs on Him when things get tough. Peter had a very good point when he said, 'to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God. Judas was with Jesus for some three and a half years, he heard Jesus' words, saw his miracles, spent time with Him, yet he betrayed him. Let us be on the guard at all times lest we desert Jesus.
