The Reign of Saul
Today's reading 1Samuel 30-31; Luke 13.23-25
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links: 1Samuel 30; 1Samuel 31; Luke 13
In 1Samuel 30, when David and his men had reached Ziklag. The Amakelites had raided Ziklag and had kidnapped the women and children of David and his men. David and his men destroyed the Amakelites and rescued them.
In 1Samuel 31, there was a battle between the Philistines and the Israelites, and things got bad for Saul, he lost three sons, Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua. They had aslo wounded Saul critically. Saul told his armor-bearer to kill him but he was afraid. Saul took his own sword and kill himself, so did the armor-bearer. Thus ended the life of Saul, a man with promise and whose life ended in tragdey. The Life and Deat of King Saul
The Christian Life is a race, it is not how you start the race, it is the finish line that counts.

(Luke 13.22-29)
Someone asked Jesus, 'Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?' (N(V) Jesus gave us a choice to enter the narrow door. Many will try to enter but will not get in. Many will say they ware Christians and Jesus will say that he did not know them (v. 27), Exposition on the Narrow Door NOT everyone will be saved. Many in our evangelical churches may be a part of the crowd but are Christians in religion only and do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ! What do you think?
Jesus mourns for Jerusalem, after receiving a death threat from Herod. He told the Pharisees who warned Him about Herod's threat that he would continue his mission of driving out demons and heal people and on the third day He would rise from the dead. He said that Jerusalem has had a history of killing the prophets and stone those sent to her. Jesus in His mercy and compassion said that He longed to gather her children together, as a hen gathers her chick under his wings, but she was not willing. Jerusalem would be desolate as we know from A.D. 70 when Rome burnt Jerusalem to the ground. The Jews will not have peace until they say 'Blessed is he (Jesus) who comes in the name of the Lord.'
In Luke 14.1-6 Jesus was invited to a Pharisee's house, where he was closely watched. A man with dropsy was there and He asked if it was lawful to heal on the Sabbath, then he gave a practical application of a son or ox falls into a well on the Sabbath, surely, they would pull the ox or son out. Then he healed the man with dropsy.
