Luke 12.32-59, Commentaries, verse by verse

Watchfulness is the key word in this passage (Luke 12.35-48) Other verse related (Luke 12.35-36; Matthew 25.1-13; Mark 13.33-37) and Luke 12.39-40, 42-46; Matthew 24.43-51). We are in the last days and the we should be watchful and vigilant. We have some who have their eschatology down pat saying that Christians would not go through the Tribulation or certain things would have to happen. the parallel passages in Mark 13 and Matthew 24 and 25 spoke of the parable of the ten virgins and being alert. We are to be on guard duty awaiting his coming.

BE WATCHFUL

Jesus said that He came to bring division not peace on the earth (Luke 12.51-53; Matthew 10.34-36). This is contrary to the image that we have imagined what Jesus is. We think that he is gentle Jesus, meek and mild! The first time He came as a Lamb to die for us as a Savior, the second time, He is coming back as a Lion as Judge and King! Jesus has created so much controversy in our world, that He has indeed created divisions among our families, friends and colleagues when we declare allegiance with Him. But then that is GOOD because He warned us that we would be persecuted for our faith in Him.

In verse 54-59. Let us be careful how we interpret the times. He is coming back! Let us not fool ourselves and lull ourselves to sleep. Let us be awake and be found faithful when He returns.
