Today's Reading John 15
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: John 15
John 15
This is another of the 'I am' discourses (v. 1-17). Today's verse to meditate (and even memorize): Verse 1 I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener.'
Jesus is the vine, the branch are the christians and the sap in the vine is the Holy Spirit, and the vinedresser is God the Father. We are a part of the vine and our life comes from the vine. We are nothing if we are not a part of the vine. Jesus said that we cannot bear fruit apart from Him.
In verse 18-27, Jesus spoke about the world hating His disciples. Let us face it, the world hate Jesus because He showed the world that their deeds are evil. We are not greater than the Master, so we were forewarned that the world will hate us also. Do you realize that the persecution in the 1900s were more than the first 18 centuries combined! We claim we are living in a civilized world but there is persecution facing Christians. It has not happened yet in the United States but one day it will, will you be ready to face persecution. Do not take it personally, be stand firm and remember that God is in control of any situation that we face.
