Today's reading 2Chronicles 6-8
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links: 2Chronicles 6; 2Chronicles 7; 2Chronicles 8
The Temple was dedicated (1Kings 8.62-66; 2Chronicles 7.1-19) by Solomon.
In 1Kings 9.1-19; 2Chronicles 7.11-22, the Lord appeared to Solomon a second time. This was a confirmation of the Davidic Covenant that God made with David that IF David and his descendants are obedient and trust God there would always be a descendant of David on the throne of David. God had warned if the Solomon or his descendants were disobedient, Israel would become a byword, an object of ridicule among all peoples, and the peoples (Gentiles) would mock and scoff at the Israelites and the Temple.
In 1Kings 9.10-28; 2Chronicles 8.1-18, Solomon had used forced labors to build the Lord's temple, his palace, the supporting terraces, the walls of Jerusalem and Hazor, Megiddo and Gezer. Solomon had other building projects including building a palace for one of his wives, Pharaoh's daughter. He had also built ships with Hiram.
In 1Kings 10.1-13; 2Chronicles 9.1-12, the Queen of Sheba visits Solomon, and gave him gifts and asked him difficult questions and found that God gave him wisdom and blessed Israel. In 1Kings 10.14-29; 2Chronicles 9.13-38, is a description of the many activities that Solomon did and have. Solomon had wisdom, wealth, and women.
In 1Kings 11.1-13, Solomon had many wives, especially foreign women which led to his downfall. Verse 3 states He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray.
Because Solomon did not follow the Lord, because his wives led him astray, God raised up against Solomon an adversary, Hadad the Edomite, Razon son of the Eliada. Finally he raised up Jeroboam who rebelled against Solomon. Ahijah the prophet spoke with Jeroboam, and Abijah took hold of the new cloak, he had and tore it into twelve pieces, He told Jeroboam to take ten pieces, because God was going to take ten tribes from Solomon and give it to Jeroboam. God will give one tribe, Judah to Solomon and the city of Jerusalem, ensuring that the Messiah, Jesus would come from Judah. God had kept the Davidic covenant but Solomon did not keep keep the covenant.
In 1Kings 11.41-43; 2Chronicles 9.29-31, Solomon reigned for forty years over all Israel and then he rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of David..

John 11.1-54
This was the account of the death and the resurrection of Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha of Bethany. Lazarus died v. 1-16. Jesus comforts Mary and Martha (v. 17-37). Martha said that if Jesus was there, Lazarus would not have died. Jesus said the astounding 'I am': proving that He is the Son of God: 25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" 27"Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ,[b] the Son of God, who was to come into the world."

Today's Reading John 10.24-44
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: John 10
John 10.24-44
The Jews demanded that Jesus tell them plainly whether He was the Christ. He said that He did but they did not believe in Him. He gave them compelling evidence from the moracles that He performed but they did not believe in Him because they were not His sheep. His sheep would be saved because they listen to His voice. Then Jesus said something astonishing in verse 30: 'I and the Father are one.' They were ready to stone Him for blasphemy because he claimed to be God, they did not understand the Incarnation that God became man. He then said if they did not believe him, then they must believe in the miracles that He performed.
Many people came to Him in the Jordan area where John had baptized. They were convinced of the testimony of John the Baptist of the Messiah who is Jesus. Let us face the facts, either you recognize His voice and are his sheep or your are not. If you are not, please continue to seek Him and come to Him knowing that you need the good Shepherd in your life.

John 9.24-41
This chapter is centered around the blind man that Jesus healed. A second time the Jews summoned the blind man eho was healed. They said that the man who healed him was a sinner and that he should give glory to God. The blind man gave credit to Jesus despite the pressure from the Pharisees. He was adamant and said the facts speak for itself 'Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know. One thing I do know, I was blind but now I see.' (verse 25) He asked them if they wanted to be his disciples. The Pharisees ended up throwing him out of the synagogue. The man was not only healed from his physical blindness but He saw the Messiah! He had faith to see the Messiah. His spiritual eyes were opened. Jesus gave some sobering words: In verse 39, Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind." What about us have we seen the Light of the world or are we wandering in the dark like the Pharisees?

1Chronicles 25 The Singers
From Matthew Henry Commentary:
The singers and musicians.
- David put those in order who were appointed to be singers and musicians in the temple. To prophesy, in this place, means praising God with great earnestness and devout affections, under the influences of the Holy Spirit. In raising these affections, poetry and music were employed. If the Spirit of God do not put life and fervour into our devotions, they will, however ordered, be a lifeless, worthless form.
1Chronicles 26 Gatekeepers
According to Matthew Henry Concise Commentary:
The porters and treasurers of the temple, had occasion for strength and valour to oppose those who wrongly attempted to enter the sanctuary, and to guard the sacred treasures
1Chronicles 27 Army Divisions (v. 1-15)
We need to wear the full armor of God because we are also in warfare with the world, flesh and devil.

This chapter is centered around the blind man that Jesus healed. Jesus heals and touches each person individually. During this event He declared that 'While I am in the world, I am the light of the world (v. 5). The Pharisees invetigated the healing and question whether the healing was genuine and whether Jesus was who He said He was. John 8.21-30
Jesus said that He was going away and the Jews could not find Him. Jesus spoke very plainly and explain what the spiritual situation was. He was from above, they were of this world. They would die them in their sins if they would not believe that he was the Christ. He had much in judgement against them. The fact was they were blinded and they did not understand the relationship between Him and the Father. What about us? Do we see things as they really are? Jesus is the Christ and He has the authority from the Father? He came and died for our sins that if we believe in Him we would have eternal life.
John 8.31-59
The Children of Abraham (v. 31-41): Jesus said (v. 31-32) 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.' We will know the truth IF we obey his commandments THEN the truth will set us free. This is on of the IF..THEN statements. We should not take verses out of context but look closely at small words such as IFs and THENs. He said, in essence, that if they were Abraham's children, they would do the things that Abraham did, they would not want to kill Him.
Jesus was pretty blunt with the Jewish leaders, He called them the children of the devil (v. 42-37) because if you belongs to God you hear what He says. But in this case they wanted to kill Jesus. The devil is the father of lies and a murderer and the Jewish leaders exhibited the characteristic of the devil.
Jesus made the amazing claim about Himself that 'before Abraham was born, I am!' (v. 49.
In his famous book Mere Christianity, Lewis makes this statement, "A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg - or he would be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us."

We will know the truth IF we obey his commandments THEN the truth will set us free.

John 8.1-27
In verse 1-11, there was the incident when the Pharisees brought the woman caught in adultery to Jesus. Accoding to Mosaic law, she was to be stoned to death. They wanted to know what Jesus would do in a situation like this. It was interesting that He wrote on the ground with his finger. The Bible did not say what He wrote. Jesus said to them, let him who is without sin cast the first stone. He then stoop down and wrote again with his finger. Slowly they all disappaered and He said where where those who condemned you. She said that there was none and He said that He did not condemn her either. This was grace in action. He told her to leave her life of sin.
In verse 12-20 Jesus spoke about His testimony in the world. He began by saying that 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follow me will never walk in darkness, but will have the lightof life.' (NIV, verse 12). Jesus is basing the validity of His testimony not on man's authority but on the authority that God sent Him. He based the testimony on two witnesses. The first witness was God the Father and the second was on Humself. Both were reliable witnesses. Jesus and God the Father produce credible witnesess and cannot lie.
